Countless tragedies, environmental degradation, economic crisis, increasing rate of suicides, and much more issues and concerns that surf up over time calls for people to reevaluate their lifestyle and inspect the way they spend their lives and their resources. Because of the various happenings that alarm people all over the world, many have switched into conscious living. But what is conscious living? What difference does it make to individual lives? Does it have a social or global impact?

Conscious living is coined from the idea of living a life with enough consciousness about a person’s lifestyles, behavior, impact to other people, and the whole mechanism of his existence. The concept of conscious living aims to answer the fundamental questions that humans have struggled to answer through the years. In a philosophical perspective, it aspires to redefine the quality of life of a person to give it more meaning and purpose. It rooted from the idea that a life only becomes meaningful and significant if the person puts its energy and effort in order to maintain a peaceful co- existence with other people and making sure that his well- being and welfare is taken care of.

The concept of conscious living is so broad and it encompasses lots of concerns not only to the self, but also to everything that is in one way or another connected with the self. For a more comprehensible concept, conscious living can be divided into four different parts: Spiritual Awareness, Environmental Awareness, Social Awareness, and Health & Well- Being Awareness. These four parts make up the whole and much greater idea of conscious living.

Spiritual Awareness is the first part of conscious living. It deals with the purpose of the self and the meaning of the existence of the person. It is concerned with the way a person lives his life in connection with his actions and their affects to other people. Environmental Awareness, on the other hand, deals with the resources for a person’s survival. This answers the questions of sustenance and need. It also aspires to take responsibility for the natural resources that sustains the need of men.

Social Awareness pertains to the consciousness of an individual to what is happening around him and what he can do about it. This part calls for social action in providing the necessary help to those who are in need and to stand up for various causes that he believes to create significant changes in the society. Finally, the health and well- being awareness pertains to how a person nurtures himself by providing his necessary needs and avoiding those that can cause him harm. This includes employing proper diet, exercise, and everything that can contribute to good health.

Adopting a conscious living can be a very challenging thing to do, but ones you achieve a point of success in this endeavor, it is also very rewarding.
